Plastic Free July: Bathroom Hacks 101

Written by: Ardianto Putra

Did you know that many products in our bathrooms contain plastic? From shampoo and conditioner to shower gel, shaving cream, facial wash, baby care items, and cleaning products, plastic is prevalent. In fact, some of these products are composed of more than 90% plastic.

There are some everyday bathroom products we can easily replace with more eco-friendly options. Since we use our bathrooms daily, keeping them clean and sanitized is essential. However, did you know you can achieve this with natural, low-plastic alternatives?

1.DIY Toilet Cleaner Bombs

Make your own toilet bowl cleaner bombs by combining baking soda, citric acid, and essential oils. Drop one into the toilet bowl, let it fizz, then scrub and flush for a fresh clean.

2.Reduce Toilet Paper Usage

While toilet paper is often necessary, you can reduce its usage by switching to microfiber cloths for bathroom cleaning. One cloth can serve multiple purposes. (Hint: you can check out our eco-cloth set as an option.)

3.Create Your Own Air Freshener

Make a custom air freshener using distilled white vinegar and essential oils. Use a mister bottle typically meant for plant care. Fill it with undiluted distilled white vinegar using a small funnel, then add a few drops of your favorite essential oils, such as citrus, lavender, or woodsy scents. You can also create scented vinegar by adding herbs, citrus peels, or flower petals.

4.Switch to Refillable Cleaners

Instead of buying bulk cleaners in plastic bottles, switch to using a single bottle with a refill system for your cleaning solutions. SimplyGood Bathroom tablet refills are a great alternative.

By making these small changes, you can significantly reduce plastic usage in your bathroom. Embrace these eco-friendly hacks and contribute to a healthier planet.
