1. How do I use this sanitiser and what are the precautions to take?
Step 1. Spray liquid from a spray bottle on general or food contact surfaces. Wait for 30 seconds for the liquid to inactivate 99.9% of bacteria and germs. Wipe the liquid completely off the surface with a clean cloth/ tissue paper before further interaction.
Step 2. Apply liquid on hands and rub thoroughly. Sanitises in 30 seconds.
*Do not consume/ ingest the liquid solution.
2. Can I spray and wipe immediately?
You can wipe the surface 30 seconds after spraying the solution and that will inactivate bacteria & viruses. You should not wipe immediately as this would not be as effective at eliminating bacteria & viruses.
3. Do I need to wait 30 seconds after I sprayed them on my utensils?
Yes, you would need to wait 30 seconds after spraying the solution on your utensils before wiping the solution from the surface (as stated on our product labels). This would allow the solution to inactivate 99.9% of bacteria & viruses.
4. Is it safe to use on utensils meant for dogs?
The product could be used on utensils meant for dogs. However, do ensure that the following steps are adhere to: After spraying the solution on the utensil, allow the liquid to sit for 30 seconds on the surface to deactivate bacteria & viruses. Wipe the solution off the surfaces completely with a clean cloth/ tissue paper. Do ensure that your pet dog does not interact with the utensils during the sanitizing process.
5. Does it mean that as long as the solution dries up, we can safely use it on toys? Or is a second wipe recommended? As babies tend to put everything into their mouth.
The product could be used on toys. However, do adhere to the following steps: After spraying the solution on the toys, allow the liquid to sit for 30 seconds on the surface to deactivate bacteria & viruses. Wipe the solution off the surfaces completely with a clean cloth/ tissue paper. Do ensure that the child does not play with the toys during the sanitizing process. We would recommend to wipe off the solution from the toy's surface completely with however many wipes are required. However, the toys need not rinsed.
6. Do I still need to wipe a second time with wet cloth?
You do not need to wipe the surface again with a wet cloth as this is a rinse free product and the solution evaporates quickly. However, we do recommend that you wipe it with a dry cloth so that the solution is completely wiped off the surface.
7. Wiping it may not remove all of the alcohol. This means it may not be safe to use the utensils right after cleaning with your sanitizer?
We advise our users to wipe the solution completely off the utensils before using them. This is because our products are not consummables even though they are food grade.
8. Can this product be used on masks?
Please do not use the product on disposable surgical mask as this might compromise the mask's effectiveness. You may spray it on reusable masks but do leave it to dry and sanitise for 30 seconds or more or wipe the liquid off with a clean cloth/ tissue paper.
9. Is this safe to use on kids' masks?
This product is safe to be used on kids' masks. Please follow these instructions. Firstly, spray the solution onto the kid's mask, next, leave the solution on the mask for 30 seconds for it to inactivate the bacteria & viruses. Lastly, wipe any remaining solution off the mask with a clean cloth/ tissue paper before using the mask.
10. Is this safe to use on marble surfaces?
The product should be fine for marble surfaces so long as you wipe it after spraying and not leave the solution to sit on the surface. The ingredient within is essentially what is used to produce beverages like wine, vodka, etc.
11. What will happen if we do not wipe the solution off with a dry cloth and it is left sitting on the table?
If the solution is left on the table (without wiping), the ethyl alcohol in the droplets/ solution will start evaporating first, leaving behind the filtered water content. eventually, the filtered water will also evaporate, leaving behind no residue. As some surfaces might be prone to "water marks", it is still a good practice to wipe the solution off the surface (after 30 seconds).
12. Why is this product dual-function? Is it liquid or gel-based?
Our products could be used for both skin surfaces (like your hands) and general contact surfaces (including food contact surfaces). The product is liquid-based, hence, it could be sprayed on those surfaces.
13. What is the scent of this product?
As we did not add any fragrance into this product, it is odourless and without scene. However, as there is a high alcohol percentage, there will be an alcoholic smell once it is applied, for a brief moment.
14. Will frequent usage make my palm skin more dry?
As our product is an alcohol-based product with high alcohol percentage, it might be drying for some people with frequent usage. Hence, you might want to use/ test it together with a moisturizer.
15. What is Food Grade? What is Food Safe? What are their differences?
According to the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Food grade means that the material is either safe for human consumption or it is okay to come into direct contact with food products.
Food safe means that a food grade material is also suitable for its intended use and will not create a food-safety hazard. Despite being food grade, we do not encourage consumption of our products and users should adhere to our instructions to prevent any consumption.
16. How does the product kill bacteria and is also food grade?
The ingredient within the product that kills the bacteria is the 70% ethyl alcohol. Our ethyl alcohol is derived from wheat and it is the same ingredient used in alcoholic beverages such as vodka and wine. Nevertheless, we advise against consuming it and we have this stated on our product labels. 17. How do you define it as natural then?
The food grade ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol used in this product is derived from agricultural feedstock such as wheat, corn, barley. For example, our ethanol is derived from wheat and is the same ingredient used in alcoholic beverages. This is unlike existing industrial grade ethyl alcohol/ isopropyl alcohol which is derived from petrol chemicals/ fossil feedstock and produced in a non food grade product environment, thus, rendering it toxic and non food grade.
18. Is your alcohol safe if accidentally ingested?
While the alcohol (both ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol) used in our product is food grade and not denatured, we do not encourage any ingestion/ consumption of our product. Ingesting it would be akin to ingesting an alcoholic beverage with a fairly high alcohol percentage (>70%).
19. Is this product safe for infants?
Yes, our products are safe to be used around infants. However, as the solution contains a high alcohol percentage, do ensure that it is not ingested by the infant. When applying the solution on the infant's skin, do ensure that there is adult supervision and that the solution is rubbed thoroughly such that it dries completely.
20. Does this product weaken your immune system or cause any harm?
This product is similar to alcohol-based sanitizers used by medical professionals in medical centres and hospitals (with the exclusion of certain ingredients like hydrogen peroxide). It does not cause harm to the body if the instructions and precautions are strictly followed. Mainly, people with sensitive skin should not use it excessively and the solution should not be ingested/ consumed.
21. Could you please clarify why you do not recommend the solution to be ingested? I hope to use it to clean my utensils/ cutlery when dining out.
We advise against any ingestion/ consumption of the product as it is not intended for that purpose. Instead, it is meant solely for sanitizing surfaces and should be used only for that purpose even though they are food grade. Users should follow our instructions of wiping the solution completely off the surface (30 seconds after spraying) and this will prevent ingestion of the solution. Accidentally ingesting the solution would be akin to ingesting an alcoholic beverage with a fairly high alcohol percentage (>70%).
22. May I know what are the active ingredients? Could they kill viruses?
The active ingredient used is food grade ethyl alcohol (70% composition), and this is effective for eliminating 99.9% of viruses & bacteria. This is an active ingredient that is actually recommended by the US CDC for eliminating viruses & bacteria.
23. What ingredients is this product made of and is there some ground evidence to show the effectiveness?
The product comprises of 70% ethyl alcohol, 29% filtered water, 1% isopropyl alcohol. 24. What is the difference between Ethanol and IPA?
In disinfectants, both Ethanol and IPA are often at a concentration of 70% in water. Ethanol is one of the most widely used recreational substances that is present in alcoholic beverages. As a disinfectant, it works by denaturing proteins and dissolving lipids, effectively destroying many types of bacterial and viral cells. On the other hand, IPA (Isopropyl alcohol) is not as effective at dehydrating living tissue. Both Ethanol and IPA can be produced by fermentation, although the fermenting agent for IPA is bacterium rather than yeast.
25. Is Ethanol safe?
FDA has labeled Ethanol as a Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) substance - a panel of qualified experts determined that Ethanol is safe to use in food products. Ethanol is a very pure form of alcohol, its consumption and use in food is often regulated by the government. The only precaution to take note of is that ethanol is highly flammable and should not be used near open flames.
26. Why are some of the other brands selling Ethyl Alcohol 70% but much cheaper?
It is pertinent for consumers to be careful and awareful of the content/ ingredients within sanitisers as they are meant to be applied on our skins. Although we are aware that there are other brands selling Ethyl Alcohol at 70% concentration, these might not be of the same quality as the ingredients used in Simplygood’s sanitisers. One main differentiator is that the Ethyl Alcohol used in SimplyGood’s sanitisers is naturally derived from organic wheat, and has gone through many stringent food handling procedures and standards.
27. Is higher percentage of alcohol better at disinfecting and sanitising?
Ethanol is typically used in concentrations of 70 percent, because higher concentrations evaporate too quickly and lower concentrations are not as effective.
28. Are all ethanol alcohol food grade?
No. Food grade ethanol is typically produced by fermenting grains and distilling off the ethyl alcohol.
29. Are there other food-grade sanitisers out there?
There might be similar food-grade sanitisers in the market but from what we know, these are rare. Our food-grade sanitisers are not only naturally derived from organic wheat, they are also formulated and manufactured by a food compliant facility in Singapore adhering to the highest food handling standards. As such, not many sanitisers can claim the same level of food-grade safety nor the standards associated with our food-grade sanitisers.
30. Who are your customers?
Our customers range from businesses in the food & beverages industry, to hotels, MNCs, SMEs, etc. On the consumer front, our customer base extends to mothers and families with young children, elderly and pets.
31. How long is the shelf life of the Sanitisers?
2 years minimum shelf life - it may evaporate slightly due to the condition.
Once open, to minimise evaporation of alcohol (due to the high alcohol concentration 70% of our products), we would advise that you put on the inner cap after opening the 5L refill pack, to create an airtight seal.
32. Is this a local product? Is it manufactured in Singapore? Are the ingredients from local sources/ sourced locally?
This is a local product and it is manufactured in Singapore. The ingredients are sourced from food manufacturers in Singapore, which in turn is imported from overseas (eg. Europe).
33. Can this product be used with cold fogger machine?
Although we have not tried this product with a cold fogger machine, this solution has been tested with electrostatic sprayers for misting and disinfecting and is currently being deployed. With that equipment, it works well as it evaporates and dries very quickly and is rinse free. However, you might want to test the solution in small quantities with your machine to determine if it is suitable.
34. Have you all also obtained approval from Singapore SFA so that this can be sprayed on utensils?
NEA's executives have examined our ingredients, their sources/ origins and our processes. Although there is a consensus in terms of our sanitisers' intended application and purpose (i.e. disinfecting food contact surfaces such as utensils). We have been advised by NEA to emphasise to our customers that the sanitising solution is not fit for consumption. This is to ensure that the sanitisers are used only for the sole purpose of disinfection/ sanitisation as it is intended and not classified under consumable alcohol. As such, that has become a part of our advice and instructions to our customers as well.
35. Do you sell 20ml sanitisers?
As of now, do not have any plans to do a 20ml hand sanitiser. 50ml is currently the smallest volume for our hand sanitiser. Our sanitisers comes in different sizes as well, 1L and 5L.
36. Can I add essential oil in the sanitiser?
You may add essential oil to the sanitizer. However you may have to stir it for awhile to get it to blend together.
37. Is it safe to use the sanitisers near kitchen countertops/stoves?
For areas near the stove, we would advise that you wipe off the solution 30 seconds after you have applied the solution. This is because our solution has a high alcohol percentage. Therefore, when comes into contact with the flames from the stove, certain issues might arise.
38. Can I use the sanitiser on porous surfaces? Eg. Fabric Sofa
Our food grade sanitisers contains 70% Ethyl Alcohol which may help to remove stains from certain fabric. However it is also a strong solvent. Thus it is best to avoid delicate synthetic material like wool and silk. Do also note that it should not be used on leather and lacquer surfaces.
39. Is the sanitizer safe for cleaning facial device?
Yes. Our food grade sanitiser is safe for cleaning facial devices as well. They contain 70% Ethyl Alcohol which are made from 100% natural and food grade ingredients.
40. Is the sanitiser safe for people allergic to gluten?
Our products are actually 70% food grade ethanol. As long as the user is not allergic to alcohol he/ she should be fine.
41. What can I use my food grade sanitisers on?
Unlike the normal sanitisers out there, our food grade sanitisers sanitisers can be used to sanitise food contact surfaces like your utensils, dining table and cutting board. This is due to the difference ingredients used.
42. Instead of using liquid soap, can I replace it and use sanitisers instead?
If liquid soap is not available, sanitisers would be a great alternative. However, we would still recommend hand washing with soap as effectiveness of sanitisers could vary depending on several factors. For instance, if your hands were covered in mud/ dirt, sanitisers would not be suitable.
43. Since the sanitiser is food grade, is it edible?
Even though our product is food grade, we do not advise any consumption/ ingestion of it. Hence, users should follow the product instructions and apply it accordingly to prevent any consumption of the product.
44. Is the sanitiser alcohol based & flammable?
Yes, our sanitisers are alcohol based and are hence flammable.
45. Can the sanitisers be used on tables and toilet bowls?
Yes, our sanitisers can be used on tables, toilet bowls and utensils.
46. Is it safe to spray the sanitisers on plastic coverings? Eg. Plastic coverings of food products
Yes, it is safe to use on these plastic coverings.
47. Most alcohol indicative date of expiry is usually 2-3 years after manufacturing date. How is yours different ?
Our sanitisers are made of food grade ingredients procured from a local food facility, and there are no synthetic chemicals added to the sanitiser (unlike other solutions in the market). This means that there is no degradation in the product's quality so long as it is not exposed to the outer atmosphere. Hence, we generally advise our customers to cap the bottle after their usage to help prolong and preserve the quality of the product.
